Friday Night SHORT DECK 6max $500 GTD – 6PM @ Taree Leagues

Short Deck 6-Max Poker, also known as “6+ Hold’em,” is a variation of Texas Hold’em that’s gaining popularity. The key difference is that the deck is “shortened” by removing all cards lower than six, leaving a deck of 36 cards (6’s through Aces).

Key Rules:

  1. Deck Composition: The game is played with a 36-card deck, consisting of all cards from 6 through Ace in each suit. This changes the probabilities and hand rankings slightly.
  2. Hand Rankings: Due to the reduced deck, some hand rankings differ:
    • Flush beats a Full House because it’s harder to make a flush in a shortened deck.
    • Three of a Kind beats a Straight because straights are easier to hit with fewer low cards.
  3. Game Format: The game is played with six players at the table (6-max), making the action faster and more aggressive compared to full-ring games (9 or 10 players).
  4. Betting Rounds: The game follows the same betting structure as Texas Hold’em with four betting rounds: Pre-Flop, Flop, Turn, and River.
  5. Blinds: The game uses the traditional small and big blinds, and the action starts to the left of the big blind.

Strategy Adjustments:

  • Hand Selection: Premium hands change in value, with high-card strength being crucial due to the reduced deck.
  • Aggression: With fewer players and a shorter deck, the game is more aggressive. Players often have stronger hands, so bluffing might be less effective.
  • Adaptation: Adjust your strategy to the new hand rankings and focus on the relative value of your hands in this dynamic environment.
